The Importance of Keeping Our Commitments
As an entrepreneur that part of our self-confidence comes from keeping the promises that we make to ourselves. Not to anybody else.
Because if I don't trust me, how can I expect anybody else to trust me? If I don't hold myself accountable, how can I expect to hold other people accountable? It really goes down to keeping your commitments to your commitment. If you have committed to making 20 new contacts a day, make those connections. If you have committed to attend one networking event a week, make that commitment. Whatever it is that you promise yourself, do it.
Now of course you have to be realistic. You're not going to say you're going to make 10,000 calls a day if it's not realistic for you to make 10,000 calls a day. But what we do know for sure is that the only person that we really compete with is ourselves. The goal is really to be better than who you were yesterday and to continue to push yourself to be better every single day. It's to master your skill and master your craft. You are the only person that is standing in your way. Whatever it is that you want to achieve in this life, it's really up to you. But in order for us to get other people to buy into what we're saying, we have to believe it. And belief, I believe comes from keeping the commitments that we've made to ourselves. So when I make a commitment to eat healthier, that is a commitment that I'm making to myself. And I need to trust myself in order to actually make to fulfill that commitment.
When I keep breaking promises to myself, I'm literally reducing my self-esteem. Every single time I make a commitment to myself and I don't fulfill that commitment, my self-esteem starts to diminish. So I want to encourage you guys this week as we start another fabulous week is to whatever it is that you have committed to yourself, to commit it to your business, do everything you can in your power to actually stick to that commitment. “To thine self be true” that's what Shakespeare says.
Be true to yourself first.
It doesn't matter what anybody around you says. It doesn't matter if people believe in you or not. It just doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if they like you or not. What is more important is that you like you. What is more important is that you believe in you. What is more important is that you trust you. Because only when you trust yourself, when you believe yourself, and you love yourself, is when you open up others to actually be able to learn from you and to grow from you. Some of the best leaders in the world have a very strong sense of self and they keep the commitments that they make to themselves.
