Why are highly accomplished individuals so dogged in their pursuit for success?

According to Angela Duckworth, highly accomplished individuals are so dogged in their pursuit because they are chasing something of unparalleled interest and importance to them, their passion is enduring.

I believe that when one is passionate, ‘work’ never feels like ‘work’, the pursuit is fun and exciting!

No matter the domain, the highly successful have a ferocious determination. This ferociousness is evident in 2 ways. First, these exemplars are unusually resilient and hardworking. Second, they know in a very, very deep way what they want.

Another trait that individuals with grit have is determination combined with direction. Determination alone is not enough, you have to know what direction to take.  Mostly importantly, Grit is the combination of passion and perseverance.

In chapter 1, Angela introduces The Grit Scale, which is comprised of two set of questions. Half of the questions are about perseverance and the other half about passion. It measures the extent to which you approach life with Grit. Potential is one thing, what we do with it is quite another.

Want to know how gritty you are? Take the grit assessment!
