Change your Thinking, Change your Life: Dealing With Failures and Disappointments

If you paint a picture of bright and happy expectations, you put yourself in a condition conductive to your goals. ~ Norman Vicent Peale

Chapter 2 of Change Your Thinking reminds me of the book The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, a lesson in becoming impeccable with your words, not taking things personally, not making assumptions, and always doing your best. In this life, it is important that we do not take the agreements that others have made about us (that is to say the beliefs that others have attributed to us) and make those agreements our truth.

The way you think and feel about yourself, including your beliefs and expectations about what is possible for you, determines everything you do and everything that happens to you. When you change the quality of your thinking, you change the quality of your life. In business you are going to be hit from almost every direction, learning how to be positive in the midst of the storms toward achieving business success, I believe is critical to your overall success.

Decide this very day to give up your negative emotions. Resolve from this moment forward to become a positive, optimistic, happy, enthusiastic person in every aspect of your life. Change your thinking about yourself and your possibilities, and your life will positively change. One of the most important rules for success and happiness is “Don’t be upset or worry about something that you can’t do anything about” Don’t criticize anyone for something that the person cannot change.

A famous law says, “If there is no solution, there is no problem.” In business we find ourselves dwelling in the “if only.” If I only I sold more products, if only I had better partners, If only I made higher sales, and so forth… Stop it!  The fact is that your life will encounter occasional continuous problems, difficulties, setbacks, and temporary failures. These unexpected and unwanted reversals and disappointments are a normal, natural and unavoidable part of life.

To change your thinking and change your life, you must make a decision to get over all past disappointment and failures. Until you do, you remain a slave to the past, which cannot be changed in any case. Make a decision today that from now on, you are going to eliminate all the “if only’s” from your life.
